Dining Room Design

Well hello there! It might have been a hot minute too long, but I’m finally getting around to sharing with y’all the dining room design I came up with for our new home. The goal was to create a feminine, elegant space, while incorporating some of the pieces we brought with us from our previous home. I could not be happier with how it turned out. As the room already had so many wonderful features, let’s take a look at what we were working with:

As you can see, the wainscoting, heavy moldings, and ceiling detail were already phenomenal. I also LOVE the original crystal pendant chandelier (she stays)! Basically, we needed to freshen up the red walls and design a space that speaks to the feminine wood detail above the entry, which is adorned with bows and garland (swoon).

You’ve probably already guessed I’ve got a thing for wallpaper…and when I saw the Hummingbird print in Blue by Cole and Son, I was sold. The plates below are heirlooms, passed down through my husband’s side of the family. I’m convinced they were made to hang in this space!

My favorite feature in this room has to be the nook in the corner, which was the perfect size for a vintage sidebar and mirror, both online resale finds. The mirror was originally yellow, purchased from a local RVA antique seller, but I refinished it in one of my favorite whites, Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore, in a Hi Gloss Advance finish.

Can you believe these curtains are not custom, but a DIY project I completed myself? I am all about a high end look sans the cost! Shout out to my Husband for the assist with hanging the rods though : ). I knew I wanted white curtains with a ribbon trim, but did not want to spend thousands on achieving the look. A little time and effort spent browsing was well worth it, as I sourced the entire project via Amazon and Etsy…for a fraction of the price (details below)!

LOVE these curtain panels. An Amazon purchase, in 96” length for added height, are just the right weight and color! I chose an industrial style rod and gold rings, creating casual pleats by hand while attaching. I found the Greek key trim on Etsy and attached it easily attached it using Stitch Witch fabric tape.
